Migration guide

FoxPro / Legacy → ERPNext

Manufacturers running custom software built on FoxPro, Access, DOS-based systems, or other legacy platforms that are no longer supported, maintained, or adequate for modern operations.

Why teams move

The reality of legacy systems

No support

Microsoft discontinued Visual FoxPro in 2007. The developer who built your system may have retired.

No integration

Legacy systems can’t connect to Shopify, modern payment processors, WMS platforms, or even modern browsers.

Knowledge risk

The only person who understands the system is about to retire. Nobody else can maintain it.

Compliance risk

Old systems often lack audit trails, access controls, and the data security modern regulations require.

The move

Our migration approach

Legacy migrations are unique because there’s no standard export format — so the process is part archaeology, part greenfield build.

How it runs

The migration, step by step

12–16 weeks
01

Data archaeology

Week 1–2 · Reverse-engineer the legacy database. Identify tables, relationships, formats. DBF (FoxPro), MDB (Access), flat files, custom formats — we’ve worked with all of them.

02

Data extraction & cleaning

Week 2–3 · Export to an intermediate format. Remove duplicates, fix encoding, standardize formats, validate referential integrity.

03

ERPNext design

Week 3–5 · Design ERPNext from scratch — a greenfield implementation informed by legacy data and processes.

04

Import & validation

Week 6–8 · Import cleaned data. Two trial runs. Reconciliation against legacy reports.

05

Training & go-live

Week 9–12 · Training matters most here — users move from a DOS-era interface to a modern web app.

From the field

Made2Manage (which runs on FoxPro-era technology) is a system we’ve encountered directly. The data-extraction patterns we’ve developed apply to most FoxPro-based custom systems.
